Welcome to the village of Wilde Lake!
Sometimes Wilde Lake is considered where it all began because Slayton House, now the community center, was considered the hub of Columbia as development began. Wilde Lake is also known to be one of the more historic districts in Columbia and has a lot to offer its community.
The village of Wilde Lake was named for Frazar B. Wilde, past chairman of the board of Connecticut General Life Insurance Company. Wilde Lake has a village center, located in the Wilde Lake Village Green, and has various small grocery stores, restaurants, and other retail establishments. For community use Wilde Lake also features a swimming center and tennis courts.
Wilde Lake neighborhoods include Bryant Woods, Faulkner Ridge and Running Brook.
What Makes Wilde Lake Unique?
- Columbia Swim Center - contains three indoor pools and a water slide called "Splashdown," is located in the village center.
- Wilde Lake High School - opened in 1971 as a model school for the nation, was the first high school to open in Columbia. The old design was oval and two stories, with a media center located in the center and accessible from the second level. The original high school was demolished in 1996 and a new one constructed.
