The village of Hickory Ridge is one of Columbia’s most scenic villages and the second largest. Quiet neighborhoods and beautiful, mature trees make up Hickory Ridge. Hickory Ridge is located close to the Middle Patuxent Nature Preserve and to downtown Columbia.

Neighborhoods in the village of Hickory Ridge include Hawthorn, Clary's Forest, and Clemens Crossing. The name Hickory Ridge comes from the original name of the tract of land it sits on. Clary's Forest comes from the original land owner John Clary (1734). Streets in Clary's Forest are named for William Carlos Williams. Street names come from Amy Lowell’s poems. Clemens Crossing is named after famed American author Mark Twain, otherwise known as Samuel Clemens. These street names come from Clemens' work.

The land surrounding Sierra Villas and Barnside in Clary's Forest originally belonged to the Kahler family farm. The farm's silo still stands among the condominiums.
